Flyspray

Flyspray, while totally environment-friendly, tracks down and kills bugs for Psi. Sounds messy? On the contrary, we use our non-allergenic Flyspray to keep track of anything we need to fix or modify.

[edit] Can I get it at the supermarket?

Even better, you can find it here. :)

No running around, no advertizing costs, nothing to throw out afterwards, Flyspray is available and ready to kill things, uh, help you out.

[edit] Is it like Bugzilla?

So you use a competing product, hmm? Tut-tut. Now is your chance to move to something more powerful, more conveniently located, and most importantly, infinitely cuter.

Flyspray's entry page shows you current bugs and progress in addressing them, and its drop-down menus give you quick and handy choices. Featuring the famous Psi site-navigation header, so one click moves you from your favourite Psi forum or the download page to Flyspray, our bug-tracker is at your service.

[edit] How do I use it?

Anyone can access the Flyspray information, which gives you a central view of progress on various issues. Track your favourite bug (we might send you the legs when we kill it), compare priorities and see what fixes are planned for which version. Be the Well-Informed Psi User (WIPU): we might even do a T-shirt for this vital user group!

If you want to report a bug, and don't already have a Flyspray account for Psi, then you need to create one. Just click on the stylish blue link in the right-hand corner at the top of the Flyspray page: Register as a New User. That's you!

Fill in your real name (the polite one people call you, not any of the others, please), and the user name you would like for this account.

Then you can choose to receive your confirmation code by email or by Jabber. Fill in your email address if you want to get an email, or your Jabber ID if you want to get a Jabber message, or both if you're feeling chatty. We won't give them to anyone.

Underneath those entry fields, you'll see a radio button (only one choice) for either email or Jabber. Pick one.

Press Send Code, and you're done! You'll receive your confirmation code soon. Watch that InBox, or Psi roster!

[edit] I want more!

Of course you do. Don't we all? Chocolate, for example, there's never enough chocolate.

As a Psi user, you have access to all the Psi Flyspray information. As a Psi Flyspray account-holder, you can report bugs, creating a new task to fix each one (only after proper acknowledgement of the bug has been given on the forum however). If this is not enough fame and fortune for you, and you want to be able to edit or comment existing tasks, you can contact User:Halr9000 and ask for more access. If he's having a good day, with some (if not enough) chocolate, your wishes may be fulfilled.

[edit] What can't I do with Flyspray?

Well, there's a long list, including some really kinky things, and anything involving anchovies, but the important thing to remember is that Flyspray is about reporting and tracking the work on bugs. It doesn't make anything happen: it just organizes things. The most important thing though is that *You may not file bugs here unsolicited*; bugs should first be acknowledged by a developer on the forum before being filed here. Filing unsolicited bugs makes the developers lives harder and delays the progress of Psi.

[edit] But I have a cool feature request!

Great! Please introduce it in the Feature request forum, where it will be discussed by the Psi community, a very keen and able user base. If the feature is seen as a Good Thing, one of the people who are going to do the work, the Psi Team, will move it to Flyspray so we can keep track of the work being done on it.

A Feature Request must be discussed in the Feature request forum, and then managed by the Psi Team. If you put a Feature Request directly into Flyspray, that gets in the way of the active information, and just wastes time that could be spent implementing new features, like yours.

When you post a Feature Request in the Feature request forum, as a member of the Psi community, your voice is important, and your feature request will be discussed with interest. However, only the people who are going to do the work on such a feature can process it. If you would like to have more control over future features, you're very welcome to join the Psi Team and do some coding! Contact User:Halr9000 and offer your skills. We can use all sorts of skills, even eccentric wiki-editors, you will notice. ;)

[edit] My bug isn't fixed yet! I want room service!

Again, don't we all. And again, it comes down to how many people we have doing the work. Your bug will be given a priority, which reflects how it affects the wider Psi community. We'll get onto it as soon as we can. Again, if you can help, then your bug can be fixed sooner! We need more people actually rowing the boat, and less people just sitting in it and complaining about the colour of icebergs nowadays. Make a difference: join the Psi Team!

You can also raise awareness about your bug, and gather more information about its importance, by discussing it in the bugs or by emailing the developers' mailing list. Note that it's critical that the proper process is followed and that before posting your bug here you have had it confirmed by a dev on the forums. Unsolicited flyspray entries are liable to be closed silently, as it's very hard to follow up reports, unlike an interactive service like the forum.

Remember, the Flyspray database is about tracking tasks, not getting people to do them. Contributing to our forums, mailing lists and development team is what makes things happen. Psi Power!
