[edit] Introduction
The BuggerIM series of icons was created by Blancmange originally for a half-baked Jabber instant messenger he started working on but abandoned when he saw MirandaIM had done pretty much what he wanted already. To make various XMPP instant messengers more accessible to half-blind users and more appealing in general, 24bpp+Alpha formats were added.
A selection of the icons are displayed on the mock-up images of instant messengers:
The shadows are blended according to the Alpha Channel Processing part of the PNG Specifcation. I've contrived the shadows to look acceptable even in the case of incorrect blending. Hopefully, Psi will one day render PNGs according to the specifications, too.

The icon sets for each of Psi's themes exist as separate folders under %PROGRAMFILES%\Psi\iconsets\roster (Windows) or /usr/share/psi/iconsets/roster (Linux). Download one or more of the BuggerIM "jisp" listed below and copy them into this folder.

- 12×12, 16×16, 24×24, 32×32 and 48×48 pixels
- X-Series
- 12×12, 16×16, 24×24, 32×32 and 48×48 pixels
- All artwork, including the above packages
- BuggerIM_2.0_Psi.zip
Jisp files are really zip files with a different extension. You can fiddle with them to make your own icon sets. See Creating Iconsets.
To activate the icons, open the Options window, goto the Appearance→Roster Icons→Default tab and click on any of the pretty entries whose labels begin with "BuggerIM". You needn't muck about with the Custom tab.
