Talk:USB How To

From PsiWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Nice article, though it needs some cleanup (if you don't know what to do or you don't have time, let me know about it). You can take advantage of already written article in Psi Wiki:

Note that the problem of Psi running from USB has repeated itself several times on Psi Forums (not only the one instance you have mentioned in the article).

There was also my post about a solution not requiring to write batch files, and all other stuff: Portable Psi.

Yeah, about the portablePsi, it works just like the batch file setup, only you don't need the ini to configure anything the way you feel comfortable. Plus there is a lack of Documentation for it, as intended by Haller himself. After looking at PortablePsi, I can't help but be reminded of some of his other portable projects that have 3 places to drop the settings and no real explantion as to why that is of if one works better than the other. I've already condemed it simply because Haller stamped his name on it.

Darn, looks as if maybe the server at [1] may not be accessible, at least for right now.

I am trying to set up a Psi Portable to run off a USB flash drive, and just came across this. If you don't mind, I'll try and clean up the article a little as I work through setting up my install on Windows XP Pro.

Got my install to work great from a USB flash drive.

I just did a bit of clean up on the article, making it 3rd person, spell check, a little formatting clean up.

Looks fine to me. :)

I propose that we eliminate the sections Credit and Comments. Neither seem to be additive to the article, and I think actually give the article/Psi less credible. Comments on that anyone?

I totally agree with that. And that's what I meant in my first comment above.

With the agreement of michalj and no other comments, I have deleted the sections Credit and Comments.

My experience with batch files under cmd.exe shell in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 shows that 'set' command does not seem to work correctly under 'for' loop (i.e. variables that should be set with 'set' command either remain uninitialized or the value stays the same). The only variables that are being set correctly are those used as control variables. One has to carefully check Ephraim's batch whether it really works correctly. michalj 03:22, 11 April 2008 (EDT)
